How it works
Days are counted by subtracting one date from the other and dividing by the length of a day. Both dates are handled in UTC rather than local time — a deliberate choice, because a local-time calculation shifts across midnight in some time zones and produces an off-by-one error for half the world.
The end date is not counted. 1 January to 2 January is one day, not two. This is the convention almost everywhere: a one-night hotel stay, a one-day loan of money, a contract running from one date to another. If you want both endpoints included — “how many days am I in the country” for a visa, for instance — add one.
Months are counted as real calendar months by walking the month number, not by dividing days by thirty. From 31 January to 28 February is one month here, because that is the same day-of-month or the closest the calendar allows.
Working days assume a Friday–Saturday weekend, the working week in Jordan and much of the region. If you are counting against a Saturday–Sunday weekend the total is the same for whole weeks and can differ by a day or two at the edges.
A worked example
A contract runs from 1 March 2026 to 15 September 2026 and you need to know what you have agreed to.
The result: 198 days, 28 weeks and 2 days, 6 months, and 142 working days. The last number is the one that matters for staffing. It is the days you actually have, not the calendar span.
A deadline example. Today is 27 July 2026 and something is due on 31 August. The gap is 35 days, which sounds comfortable. But the working-day count is 25, and if you were planning on five working days a week you have five weeks, not five weeks plus the weekends you were quietly counting on.
The leap-year check. Set 28 February 2024 to 1 March 2024: two days, because 2024 had a 29 February. The same range in 2025 gives one day. Any calculation that divides by 365 gets this wrong; counting real days does not.
The endpoint convention is worth testing once so you trust it. Set both dates to the same day: zero days. Set them one day apart: one day. If you need the “inclusive” count that visas and some contracts use, add one to whatever this shows.

Can I use this as a countdown to a date?
Yes. Put today first and the future date second, and the duration between them is shown in years, months, weeks and days.
Is the end date included?
No. 1 January to 2 January is one day. That is the standard convention for stays, loans and contracts. Add one if you need both endpoints counted, as some visa rules require.
Which days count as the weekend?
Friday and Saturday — the working week in Jordan and much of the region. For a Saturday–Sunday weekend the whole-week totals match and the edges may differ by a day.
Does it handle leap years?
Yes, because it counts real days rather than dividing by 365. February 2024 has 29 days here and February 2025 has 28.
How are months counted?
As calendar months, by walking the month number — not by dividing days by thirty. From 31 January to 28 February is one month.
Does the order of the dates matter?
No. The result is the size of the gap, so swapping the dates gives the same answer.
Is anything uploaded?
No. The calculation runs in your browser and neither date is transmitted.
Why UTC rather than my local time?
Because a local-time calculation can shift across midnight depending on the time zone and daylight saving, producing an off-by-one error. Calendar dates have no time zone, so UTC is the correct way to handle them.
Does it account for public holidays?
No. Holidays vary by country and year, so the working-day count excludes weekends only. Subtract holidays yourself.
